Start the free trial
The trial runs for 14 days. You do not need a card. Your company starts empty, ready for your own products. If you would like to practise first, you can ask for sample data when you sign up.
- Open the sign-in page and choose "New to Sevo? Start a free 14-day trial".
- Fill in "Business name", "Your name" and "Work e-mail". The e-mail becomes the administrator login.
- Choose the "Country". It sets the currency your books are kept in (Sri Lanka keeps them in LKR). You can still buy and sell in other currencies later.
- Want to try things out first? Tick "Add sample products so I can try things out". You get about a dozen sample items with prices and stock, and a till. Leave it unticked to start with an empty shop. Sample data can be removed later in one step.
- Press "Create my company". The small print under the button links to the "Terms of Service" and the "Privacy Policy" if you want to read them.
- The screen says "Check your e-mail". We send a temporary password to the address you gave.
No e-mail after a few minutes? Look in the spam folder first, then contact support.
Sign in for the first time
- Choose "Go to sign in", enter your e-mail and the temporary password, and press "Sign in".
- On "Choose your password", check your name (it is shown on receipts) and type a new password twice.
- The password needs at least 8 characters, an upper-case letter, a lower-case letter, a number and a symbol. The rules tick as you type.
- You land on the Dashboard.
The sample data
Sample data is only added if you ticked "Add sample products so I can try things out" when you signed up. If you did not, your company starts empty: add your own products under Catalogue → Products.
If you ticked it, the dashboard shows "Preparing sample data…" while the company is being prepared. It refreshes by itself and usually takes under a minute. Then it says "Sample data is ready.", with a "Remove sample data" button for the day you start for real.
The sample data gives you products with prices, opening stock, a till, and about a year of sample sales so the Insights screens can show forecasts. Click around freely: nothing here is real.
When you are ready, bring in your own products and opening stock, then remove all the sample data in one go: press "Remove sample data" on the dashboard, or open Settings → Company (see "Remove the sample data"). The Data migration screen under Settings walks you through the order.
The setup guide
Administrators see a card called "Set up your company" on the dashboard. You can do its steps in any order: "Explore the sample data", "Add your own products", "Set up your till", "Make a test sale", "Invite your team", "Load opening stock" and "Choose a plan". "Explore the sample data" is only shown while your company has sample data, so the guide has seven steps with sample data and six without.
Each step has a link to the right screen. Some steps tick themselves when the system sees they are done (they are marked "ticks itself"): the sample data is ready, a teammate has been invited, and a plan has been chosen. For the other steps press "Mark done" when you have finished, or "Undo" to untick. Once you remove the sample data, the "Explore the sample data" step disappears.
Press "Hide guide" whenever you like. When every step is done the card says "You're all set".
What to do next
- Fill in your company profile under Settings → Company, so receipts show your name, address and tax number.
- Make a test sale on the till to see how the till works.
- Invite your staff under Settings → Users.
- Choose a plan under Settings → Plan & billing before the trial ends.
