The till works without internet
The till keeps a copy of the products, prices, tax rules, customers and cashier PINs on the device. When the internet goes down or the power cuts the router, you carry on selling.
Sales, returns, new customers, shift open and close, and time clock events are all saved on the device first, then sent to the server in the order they happened. Nothing is lost if the connection drops in the middle.
The device has to connect at least once to download the product list. If it has never connected, the till says No items on this till yet. Connect to the internet once to download your items.
When the connection drops, a thin amber strip under the top bar says No internet. Sales are saved on this till and sent when the connection is back, with how many sales are waiting. Carry on selling; the strip goes away by itself when the connection returns.
Install Sevo on the till device (tap ☰ then Install app). An installed app keeps its offline data; Safari on an iPad may clear the data of a browser tab left unused for 7 days. See "Install Sevo on your tablet, phone or computer".
The sync chip
The chip next to the till code in the top bar shows the connection at a glance:
Online means everything has been sent. Syncing 3… means items are on their way. Offline means the device has no connection; it also shows how many items are queued. 1 rejected means the server refused something and a person needs to look at it.
- Tap the chip to open the Sync status window.
- It shows the Connection, how many items are Waiting to send, the Item list version and when the items were last updated.
- Tap Sync now to send queued items straight away instead of waiting.
While online, the till sends queued items every few seconds and refreshes the product list every few minutes on its own.
What works differently offline
Returns can only find receipts issued by this device. The Orders view shows only this device's receipts. The stock hints on the product tiles disappear. The PDF receipt is made by the server, so it is ready only once the sale has been sent; printing and the e-receipt link work at once.
When the server rejects an item
Sometimes the server refuses a sale or return that the device accepted, for example because a price was missing or the shift was already closed. The chip turns red and shows how many were rejected.
- Tap the chip. Rejected items are listed under Not accepted by the server with the Type (sale or return) and the Error.
- Fix the cause if you can, for example add the missing price in the back office, then tap Retry.
- If the sale was entered again another way or was a mistake, tap Discard and confirm. A discarded item never reaches the server, so only do this after the sale has been recorded some other way.
